2022-23 School Year

ISPN&UCC Coffee Break
ISPN & UCC hosted a Coffee Break offering social time and wellness counseling for international students. The presentation and discussion by Counselor Mihnea Vasilescu received positive feedback for its relevance to managing pressures and anxieties.

International Festival
ISPN and CGSE co-hosted the first SOE International Festival along with the Saudi Students House and SCS. The event featured national food, traditional clothes, cultural artifacts, and games from 6 different countries.

New Semester Welcome Event
At the Welcome Event for the new term, students of the School of Education were welcomed with lovely speeches from professors and faculties, and had the opportunity to catch up with old friends after a long summer. The event also included engaging games, valuable information, and potential funding opportunities.

1st Coffee Break & Book Club
Connect with fellow international students over a cup of coffee and a good book at the ISPN's "Coffee Break & Book Club"! At the first meeting, members discussed "Caste" by Isabel Wilkerson, with future meetings focusing on critical issues from the book and other suggested reads.

Library Information Seminar
The ISPN recently hosted Marian Hampton, Pitt's open-education librarian, who gave a presentation on valuable resources available through the Pitt library for international students. Attendees gained insight on online databases, research tools, and physical materials.

2nd Coffee Break & Book Club
International students from various departments, faculty members, and visiting scholars attended the second Coffee Break & Book Club event. The discussion was centered around personal identity and diversifying the group's membership, with attendees sharing their experiences and ideas for future events.

Dancing with LAGOS!
ISPN and the Latin American Graduate Organization of Students (LAGOS) hosted a fun dance event where students learned Salsa and Merengue while enjoying coffee and savory treats. Participants had a great time dancing to vibrant Latin music and relaxing with each other.
2021-22 School Year

1st In-person Meeting
For the first time, members finally get to meet in person after long time seeing each other online. Everyone was so excited to meet with each other and talk.

Pets & Mental Wellness
ISPN hosted another session of mental health well-being, and it’s pet themed. Everyone showed their pes pictures and stories with each other. It was very lovely!

Phipps tour
ISPN organized members to have a tour to Phipps garden festival, it was magnificent/magic to see green and all colors of flowers in artsy shapes in Winter holiday season.

Speed Friending
ISPN hosted a speed friending session to get members and students from domestic and other countries to get together and make friends!

Counseling Workshop
Staff from school counseling center share with members some useful strategies and tips to decompress and stress relief. Keep fitness but also take care of mental well-being.

Conversation with Assistant Dean
Engaging conversation with Assistant Dean Dr. Andrea Zito, where international students voiced their concerns and experiences regarding career support, studying and life at SOE. International students hope to foster better relationships with local peers and immerse themselves more in the US culture. It's a productive and enlightening discussion!

Picnic
ISPN and some members went to Schenely park and had a lovely picnic in fine Spring weather. Outdoors activity is always refreshing!
2020-21 School Year

Hello, this is ISPN!
ISPN's first event brought together international PittEd students to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on their life and explore ways to cope with the challenges.

Conversation with Associate Dean
International students had a conversation with Assistant Dean Dr. Shederick A. McClendon during the pandemic, where they shared their feelings of isolation and concerns about the rise of anti-Asian hate incidents. The Dean listened and showed care and support for the students.
